    If you stretch your tongue out as far as you can and then put your fingers below under the tongue - there is some string or something there.

    Im just wondering if that thing is what prevents you from stretching the tongue further out of your mouth (It feels like that thing is whats stopping the tongue) and if it can be removed surgically to allow the tongue greater reach?

    I tried to imagine what negatives that could happen from it. Is that thing what stops you from accidentally swallowing and choking on your own tongue, or is that string-thing superfluous?

    If it is too strong or too far forward it can leave you tongue tied.
