    Is that true that small dogs shouldn't go up and down on stairs, because it'd damage their ponds?

    The only issues healthy dogs have with stairs are psychological - some dogs just don't like stairs.
    I wouldn't worry about the state of their ponds.

    (Obviously, if your dog has broken its leg, you should prevent it using the stairs.)

    Any dog should be getting the proper nutrition to support healthy joints as they age. Its more likely to have joint problems in the large breed dogs then the small breeds, and looking at a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement or treat is good.
