If you look at the construction of insect eyes you will see they are much cruder than animal/fish eyes. You can work out the efficiency for your self.
I think the eyesight of insects is 'fixed focal' whereas we can focus from around 10cm to 500Metres (over that there is no muscular change to infinity). I'm not sure any insects are truly without sight once in adulthood or indeed even before.
Y not? They have accidents too...
there are blind insects, A well known group is "protura" try googling it. there are plenty of pages on them. interestingly there are no fossil records of proturan. :-D
no fossiles can't explain anything, just the theory that they can't die, but that's not possible.
anyway, we might just not been looking right if we wanted to see their fossiles. maybe we should be looking inside other animals stomack.
