Very interesting article in Popular Science. I'd be looking forward to enhancements that would allow me to run much faster and I don't care about winning any races. So how do we handle the people that think humans shouldn't do anything to improve us physically if it isn't natural? I say it's natural for us to use our bigger brains to improve our condition anyway we can.

They have the right to say what they think just as those who think otherwise.

If you want to "enhance" yourself then one day you will be able to if you choose to do so. The major problem is that only those with enough money can be able to have the operation done that makes them "improved". So you will have a problem if the people are applying for a job and one was "enhanced" and the others were not. Would it be fair to allow this to become a part of the workplace? There are then things like sports that are similar in respect to those who could afford to be better at running than others because they have paid to get "enhanced".

I would assume the enhancements would be genetic in nature and they might start out costing an arm and a leg, but we do know that price would come down rather quickly. After all the big money comes when billions can afford to pay for it. Why should enhancements be banned because athletes might want to be better at what they do. Athletes that compete at a pro level make up a very small percentage of the total population. Should the rest of us suffer because we don't want pro athletes to have an unfair advantage?

But to become a "pro" you must start out as an amateur so you don't have those "enhancements" at that level because of costs that most people can't afford. So the issue still remains the same in that you'd have the rich that buy whatever they want and the rest of us trying to make ends meet. Do you think that is a good way to run things, I don't.

What "enhancements" do people have done with their genes and when are they done. Those are questions that are perplexing because if genes are being manipulated they would be done when the person is born or before they are born so that the effects can be made as the person develops. So who then decides as to what enhancements are to be done to an unborn baby?

The parents of course, the first enhancements will probably be to correct genetic disorders, but if peoples senses can be made better than normal and their muscles made stronger and faster and their brains smarter with some good looks thrown in. I'd be glad to do for my kids if it was possible for me to do so.

As would I. Though, the prospect of becoming obsolete or otherwise inferior in every physiological aspect disturbs me.

Does that mean you don't want your kid to be better than you and have better kids than you did? I am assuming the enhancements will be passed on to future generations.

Of course I'd want them to be better than me. However, the thought of becoming obsolete in comparison upsets me moderately.

Any gene manipulations wouldn't be carried over to the next generation because that manipulation was man made not naturally occurring.

Um, like a better education, for example?
