    Hi
Can anybody here please tell me which one of these is a part of sporophyte?
    a. Microspore b. Megaspore c.Pollen d. Ovary

and who is the author of the book "Secret Life of Plants"?
Webster or Linnaeus or Bauhin or Aristotle

trust me, I searched over google for the answer of the second question, but I did not find anything which matches the answer choices given here..can you please tell me?

and what exactly is the reason behind surviving of Rice plants in flooded soil? Is it because they show quick germination or because of anaerobic respiration or because of their thick seed coat or because they grow fast?

    Please let me know..thanks

P.S-> These are not my homework. I am a grown up person..it was asked in an exam to test my general knowledge of science..I am here just checking my answers..

Then you'd be given those answers by whoever asked you those questions.

Yes, but it'll take more than four weeks before they publish the answers officially. But I wanted to know them now in order to learn them. So if you know the correct answer, then you can give it.

I'm a grown up person and I still have to do homework. Plenty of grown adults go back to school.

most of these questions you've been posting seem to be flawed in one way or another. i wouldn't put too much weight into whatever results come of this test.

But still if you have to pick one, which one would you pick, mat5592? You helped me earlier, so I am counting on you again..
I have also found this link of the book in Wikipedia..but the author names do not match with my question..so I don't know..

If it were me, I would not have answered the question, rather instead I would have written out a very stern comment about how their trick questions are an insult to the concept of what an exam for knowledge should be and that the people who wrote the test are imbeciles.

Or I would have stood up and demanded a refund of any monies paid for the testing process.

these questions were asked in a job interview..so I am trying to check my chances..so these questions are very important for me even when they are slightly wrong..

could you please point out where exactly these questions are wrong? Then probably I can argue with the authority regarding the validity of this exam..

in that case I definitely would not have guessed. I would have spoken up that the answers offered did not include the correct answer. They were probably testing to see if you would guess or assert your knowledge. And in jobs that require scientific knowledge, they don't want guessers. I'm going to bet your chances are not good if you did a lot of guessing on questions that were surely intended to trick you.

If you guess, you either don't know the answer or you don't have the confidence in your knowledge enough to bring up inaccuracies you detect and have chosen to guess at a chance to appear correct at the expense of accuracy.

The one about who authored "the secret life of plants" did not offer a correct option. it may have been testing you to see if you would guess or speak up.
    Good luck.

Yes, I have guessed the answers for some of the questions because I really didn't know the correct one..that's why I am in this forum..Out of 200 questions, I guessed 10-15 questions..now I need to know the correct one..
But they have answers to all of these questions...they are just going to publish them late..
So all the questions I am asking here have some correct answers according to the question setter...only if I could show them some solid causes, then only they would declare a question invalid.

Well that one for sure is invalid. But my experience with exams in employment settings is that they aren't always testing for knowledge. Sometimes they are testing for honesty. consistency or some other personality trait. I'm guessing they were checking your scientific integrity as well as your knowledge.

Unless you can provide the exact wording and answer options to the exam we wouldn't be able to verify which ones are valid or not. On the other hand, if you didn't know the answer to the question, does it really matter if the correct answer was offered or not. Correctly guessing does not prove that you actually knew the answer. It only means you beat the odds at a guessing game.

You would have to provide the test setters with the correct answers in order to make the validity of the question relevant to whether or not it counted against you. And we will not tell you the answers. You will have to figure those out for yourself and with confidence approach the test setters with the exact questions that were invalid as well as the correct answers to those questions.

these three questions you posted earlier seemed flawed too

"1.Which of the following lack enzymes?
Fungi or Virus or Bacteria or Algae?
2.Which one of the following can flow?
Gelatin or Emulsion or Paste or Jelly
3.The process by which bio-degradation of special compounds is accelerated by introducing microbial cells is called
Biomineralisation or Bioremediation or Biodeterioration or Bioaugmentation"

Which of these three do you eat most often as your main meal of the day:
    house bricks
    entire planets
    other peoples' brains.
Choose one, and only one from the list.

Can you see our point now?

If the "answers" do not relate to the question in any meaningful manner then picking one is folly.

I think this is not a gentle way to write replies in public forum. This forum is for helping people in Biology. You could simply write "I don't know". I am not forcing anyone here to answer me. If you don't like my questions, you can simply leave the thread.

Our answer is not "I don't know", and we're telling WHY it's not "I don't know".

No, he's right. There's is nothing wrong with your question. The only way it would be invalid would be if none of the answers applied rather than just one answer applied. As it is, the question is valid and easy to answer.

Why did "Some" like the O.P.?
Anyway, I cannot answer the question because the answers provided are nonsense.
Dywyddyr gave a good example, except his might have been worded more accurately as:

Which of these three do eat most often as your main meal of the day:
    house bricks
    entire planets
    Consumable food
    Edible food

Choose one, and only one from the list.

Ah I see what you meant by your previous post.
Mea culpa, but when I wrote my reply I specifically had the question about the book in mind - I'd been following the exchange between raju_ayer and matt, and the OP - in which case (since NONE of the possible "answers" are correct) I maintain I'm right.

Yes, I was being a bit absurd, implying that the question was fine because we normally eat others brains.

I do, anyway. With a spoon (The trick is to chill the spoon in the freezer for about an hour before seating yourself before your tasty victim snack.)

Perhaps the OP is trying to perform some kind of test/analysis on forum members using those questions?

Let's try this again. Different, more simple question.

What is the correct answer to this math problem: 1+1=____?

    a. I am really stupid.
    b. I like to eat poo.
    c. I have no brain.
    d. I'm an idiot.

Now, which answer would you give?

This is unfair-- One of the provided answers is physically impossible.
