This is a weird stone I found back in 5th grade or something some 6-7 years ago. It looks like it has been subject to a lot, but what exactly I don't know. Can anyone please tell me what you think this could be, and what it's made of?

It's hard like a stone, with a rough surface. It's approx. 5 CM in diameter.

Where did you find it? What type of soil was it in? Was there any bodies of water nearby? What type of vegetation?

Speaking badly about people after they are gone and jumping on the bash the band wagon must do very well for a low self-esteem.

I don't remember at all, I was quite young. I just picked it up from the earth. It was in a school yard, and there were no water source nearby. However, it was in a little 'green spot' we had in the yard, the only place with plants...

Close but not quite, it was in eastern Denmark. How come?

It looks like plant impressions; it is dark, almost black. Without being able to handle it I suspect a coal, or a carbonaceous shale with fossil plants.

Your name is Hans, which suggest a German connection, so I went for the Rhur coalfields.

How hard is it? If it is quote soft, then it may just be imprints on a lump of clay from your 'little green spot' - a fossil in the making! If it is hard it is likely the genuine article.

I really cant tell on this one to be honest. There may have been biological origins of the patterning but there quite possibly wasnt and its a fracturing/spalling pattern.

devilishly hard to say from a picture rather than the actual specimen, but on balance i'd settle for inorganic weathering patterns
