Thread: 3d Osmosis

Hello,
i am doing a 3d model on Osmosis and we can use anything from construction paper to ...anything...
now i kno what Osmosis is...the movement of water molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
i kno the hypertonic, hypotonic and isotonic solutions
just need help how to make it....any adivce plz

You can take a shoe box. divide the sides with a piece of paper. cut a hole in the middle of the piece of paper. make this really really really long strand of blue paper that can fit through the hole and use this as water.

that's how i would do it but then again i didnt know what osmosis was until you told me. purely brainstorming here.

i know what osmosis is, but cannot think of anything that could help you.

just out of curiousness, what year/grade/level/class are you in?

11th grade, for anatomy class

3d model eh? that's too bad. my only idea is the old "egg membrane experiment" you dissolve the shell of an egg with vinegar (takes a while) and all that's left is the skin-like membrane and the goods inside. you put the egg in salty water and it shrinks to balance it out. you put the egg back in regular water and it goes bulgy again.

I was thinking you could make an actual interactive model, and this was the first thing that came to mind. I mean instead of jsut showing osmosis with plasticine or other crap, make something that will actually osmose. hope that helped, as for the actual idea... right now i'm licked...

If you can get your hands on some dialysis tubing (try your local university human bio dept), it will do the same thing as the egg. They will probably give you a bunch for free.
