HI FRIENDS! WHAT IS THE ROLE OF APPENDIX AND CAECUM?![]()
Hi,
Both the appendix and caecum are vestigial organs, the original function of which, was in facilitation of the digestion of cellulose. The appendix may also have extant roles in immunity.
Vermiform appendix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaCecum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaTwo examples right there against an ethereal designer - why give humans organs that no longer perform their intended/original purpose and that often cause severe morbidity/mortality via inflammation?
Best wishes,
Tridimity
They're probably more useful to primitive hunter/gatherers, who occasionally gorge on bad or poisonous foods which must be quickly expelled by vomiting or diarrhea. In the later case, an appendix and caecum retain a sort of "last good" copy of flora, which recolonizes the large intestine. Modern humans rarely eat foods our bodies reject.
