Hey guys, I heard that a person can be naturally intoxicated and feel like they're drunk without actually consuming any alcohol. I attended a lecture where they discussed this but I can't seem to find anything on google to support this idea, I'm sure that it has truth to it where an increase in some sort of hormone can lead to this behaviour but can anyone find me actual scientific information on this? Or have heard of this theory and would like to share their opinions?

    Thanks

sounds like crackpot idea to me. For that feeling the body need to produce substances that would acctualy cause harm to itself. Wich it would never do since it causes harm in evoultion

yea but i'm not talking about harming the body, I'm talking about the actually drunkness feeling you get, like when you keep laughing and start acting crazy as if you're drunk when you're not. It's obviously an increase in some kind of bodily substance/hormone etc..? What do u think?

i say its still damaging for the indivdual if it werent for our society. a person acting drunk would be a easy prey so genes causing the person to be drunk would automaticly be erased from the genepole

I have heard of psychological experiments where groups of people have been given alchohol-free drinks that they believed were alcholic. These people responded by acting as if they were intoxicated. It's well documented, you can try it on people yourself!

I don't think anyone is suggesting that they are actually producing natural chemicals which are causing this intoxification. It is likely the observed affects are due to the people relaxing and lowering their inhibitions naturally. This is also combined with a degree of social conditioning in that people subconciously start acting in a manner that is expected of them.

It would certainly be interesting to see how these people resond in reaction tests. Would these people who thought that they were drunk also be dangerous driving a car?

If we are talking about natural ways that the body can 'intoxicate itself' there are many. I have felt intoxicated by love, after hard excercise, after succesfully finishing stressful events etc.

I know extreme fatigue has often left me with a feeling resembling that of slight intoxication.
