If an animal, like an alien octopus, had the power to expel half(or more) of the water in its blood, tissue and cells, (while it remains dormant until something triggers an absorption) how much mass could loose by expelling as close to half its water as is possible?

Could it be something like 30% ?

If it were able to survive in some state, without half the minerals in its body, that could be reabsorbed from sea water, could this mass reduction reach 50%?

Have you looked into any number of desert animals and plants?

In humans about 60% of body mass is water. If half that water was lost then for a 70 kg individual it would be a loss of 21 kg (30%, as you say).
