    I'm pretty sure that I've read that all living things give off electricity in small amounts, or something like that. If so, what causes this? thanks

    that electricity comes from the nerves

    To add to this, every cell has a 'membrane potential'.

    A voltage difference between the inside and outside of the cell.

    This means a current can flow between the inside and outside of the cell.

    You won't pick up on the membrane potential unless you stick a voltage meter in the cell. So this isn't the cause of electricity you detect in the enviroment.

    The electric eel can give a nasty shock though.

    The electric eel generates its characteristic electrical pulse in a manner similar to a battery, in which stacked plates produce an electrical charge. In the electric eel, some 5,000 to 6,000 stacked electroplaques are capable of producing a shock at up to 500 volts and 1 ampere of current (500 watts). There are reports of animals producing larger voltages, but the typical output is sufficient to stun or deter virtually any other animal. Juveniles produce smaller voltages (about 100 volts). Electric eels are capable of varying the intensity of the electrical discharge, using lower discharges for "hunting" and higher intensities are used for stunning prey, or defending themselves. When agitated, it is capable of producing these intermittent electrical shocks over a period of at least an hour without signs of tiring. The exact mechanism remains largely unknown.

    :? hmm, let's think about it for a minut...

    it has to store the electricity somewhere.. why not in hydrogen molecules..

    well.. with enzymes the hydrogen will form water in a very fast rate. With the forming of the water the molecules release electricity. Spraying the enzyme/hydrogen/water towards something will electrocute it.

    The electricity should be created by the changing of ions in the cels of specific glants in the eel.

    Growing up, i marveled at star-trek's science, and ignored the perfect society. Now, i try to ignore their science, and marvel at the society.

    Imagine, being able to create matter out of thin air, and not coming up with using drones for boarding hostile ships. Or using drones to defend your own ship. Heck, using drones to block energy attacks, counterattack or for surveillance. Unless, of course, they are nano-machines in your blood, which is a billion times more complex..

    hmm,..i heard that it's kind of electrostatic power , if we focuse at this issue from other points ..we should know that some organis in the human body radiate waves which carry not cycled charges,..these organs like brain which gives waves like beta and alpha waves..this should effect the man's mood between the relaxing and activity mood all this should lead to sensable enery!..may not only from stimulus motion in nerves..

    Correct me if I'm wrong but the body doesn't really work on "electricity" in the same sense as electricity from the wall socket. Electricity from the wall results from a flow of electrons from one atom to the next by forcing electrons out of the orbit of one atom and onto the next orbit of the following atom. Similar to the neurons, except that the neurons arn't exchanging electrons, just charged particles/atoms/chemicals (Sodium[Na+] and Potassium[K-] are the basic if I remember Biology.)

    Its the exchange of these ions and the neurons seeking equilibrium (in charge) that causes the neurons to work. When action potential occurs the cells open up, the higher charged outside rushes in and the stuff on the inside rushes out, this chain reacts causing the next part of the neuron to do the same thing. After about something under a millisecond (just guessing) the neuron's cell wall's pumps kick in pulling the Potassium out and the Sodium back in restoring the unbalanced charge that exist before. No real "electrical current" occurs, only changes in polarity--"Is it more positive or more negative or equal?"

    This is why they call the functioning of the neuron an "electrochemical" function or reaction. As far as I know, no where in the body is there an electrical current produced. Of course, the body makes a really good conductor, considering its mostly water (since thats what most cells are filled with).
