Thread: Chaos Theory on Origin of Life

I just finished a college course that revolved around the Michael Keaton's Dr. Ian Malcolm and his Chaos Theory in both Jurassic Park and The Lost World. In both stories, Dr. Malcolm repeatedly states that the park will fail and "Life will find a way". And for both of statements, he states that Chaos Theory is the reason.

If we are to take Dr. Malcolm's assertion that Chaos Theory is the catalyst for these events, could we use Chaos Theory to explain why life has survived through millions of years of extinction episodes? Could we explain why life has survived without it?
