Hello everybody! First a little bit about me: for a number of years, I've had this huge interest in aquariums- freshwater, brackish, marine, there's nothing I havent tried. My absolute FAVORITE is Reef aquariums. I love all the animals that I've ever cared for, and I'll wager that you'd be hard pressed to find someone with a bigger interest in marine life. Its my dream to become a marine biologist and study the reefs of the world.

My question is about possible schools for this. Does anybody here know of a really good program that a school somewhere might offer? I've checket out a few colleges, and some of them claim to offer courses in marine biology and degrees in that area, but I dont know which ones are good or not.

Is anybody here knowledgeable in this area? What are some good schools for this? Thanks for the input everybody!

You might check out RSMAS. I don't know how good the Marine Biology school is, but I do know they have boats!

Hmmm.,, a future marine biologist that's never been on a boat. Perhaps you should try it before making a career choice

lol- yeah I'm from the center of the midwest. i guess its not entirely accurate to say i've never been in a boat- I've been in a rowboat, a paddleboat, and a LOOONG time ago(one of my oldest memories) i was on a really big boat/ship in the Gulf of Mexico. It seems like it could be a lot of fun though.

Oh yeah- i can swim, though probably the only thing I've ever swam in that even comes close to the ocean is a wavepool at a waterpark

I'm not from the US so I don't know a great deal about which universities are the best for marine biology in the colonies, but I did work as a volunteer at the University of Alaska one summer way back when I was an undergrad and they seemed to offer an excellent course.

If you want to come to the UK and pay a lot less in tuition I'd recommend Bangor, Swansea, or Plymouth
