Placebo effect is limited. It works beautifully on psychosomatic illnesses, and to a lesser degree on the symptoms of some ills. For example : it can reduce the pain of migraines and painful backs, and the like.

However, when there is a solid organic cause for a disease, such as cancer, or an infectious illness, or where there is clear cut trauma to the body, like heart disease, the placebo effect is mostly worthless.

In other words, if you have an illness with a physical cause, then you cannot 'think' your way to health. You need proper medical care.

You're correct, though I wouldn't call the effect 'limited'. It is strong enough that we must control very carefully for it in clinical trials. But that said, it seems to be mostly restricted to the reduction of pain.
