Can anyone tell me how to preserve insects? I am trying to make an insectarium but I am not sure am I supposed to "fill" insects with something or not? Another thing....
Am I supposed to kill them by pressing their chest a little bit or can I do that by putting them in a jar until they die? I'm kind of entomophobic so I'd prefer the second option....

Couldn't you just collect ones that have already died (of natural causes).

Yeah, I could, but it's kind of the hard way. . It's easier to find live insects than to find fresh corpses....

This makes me kinda sad =( It's just me though. I'm a lover of life. I can't even kill a spider; I catch them and put them outside before my family gets to them. But I can understand why someone would want to collect them. They're amazing and interesting in every way. I've seen displayed butterflies before and I can't help but marvel at their beauty no matter how sad it seems. I don't think I'd want to be killed and have my body displayed, but then, I'm not King Tut XD Not that he actually planned on being displayed... Well, I can't discriminate because I can sympathize, so good luck. I wish it were that easy to just find them dead already though =P I might collect too if that were the case. I think it'd be more fun to raise an ant farm though...

you know, I do the same thing. I don't allow my family to kill them, I put them away. I guess I was trying to prove some point with this insectarium, but in reality I am to freaked out of insects so I am not really sure I'll be able to do this for real =)
