I'm watching yet another fabulous Attenborough video, but there is a really weird object in one scene that I can't seem to identify, or even account for, given the events leading up to it. The video is here. At about 7:30, the orcas have just caught a seal and are dragging it out to sea. In one of the waves, an anomalous image appears: a piece of red-and-white machinery of some kind? It has no place in the scene, as far as I can tell, given that the only red would be blood and this is definitely not blood. Can anyone with younger eyes and/or a more vivid imagination offer any account of this strange object? That wouldn't be a camera with a cameraman behind it? That would be insane. What else could it be?

I never saw anything red a 7:30. At that time index I did see this though:

    is that the same thing?

It looks like the markings on the animals head to me, reflecting on the inside of that eddy. At first glance it does appear to be too far away from the dorsal fin - probably just an illusion.

If that's not what you saw, then... have you prepared all your own food today?

I queued it up in HD, and from the scale of things, there are two likely explanations of which I can conceive.

One is that it is the orca itself... the one on the left. There is something similar visible at time point 6:25, and you can see in that shot it's merely the underbelly of the orca. It looks almost exactly the same as the thing at 7:30, except the second one is likely on top of the orca's head.

Essentially, we're probably seeing one of the whales.

This becomes even more likely when you judge the placement of the dorsal fin of the orca on the left and see where that whitish object was appearing. It was right where that orca's mouth would be. Not sure if anything is in the mouth, but I'm pretty sure it's the second orca we're seeing.

Another possibility is that it's the seal in the orca's mouth, maybe with it's blubber showing after having been speared and sliced open by the orca in the shallow waters.

One (or both) of those two would be my guess. No matter what it is, it has something to do with the orca on the left, and is either the whale itself or what the whale is carrying in it's mouth.

I guess if that is true this thread is pointless. Unless it was an unidentified object.
