In terms of dead you first need to define the period of time, how long has the person been dead? I really doubt someone who has been dead for 1 year would burp, fart of pee; wouldn't you agree?

First off, to burp you need to inhale air, why would a dead person first off do this? For all these three things, it's required that the human body is alive. Whether or not, you're peeing because your muscles relax when you die would be defined as peeing I'm not sure.

IMO, bacteria soon begin generating gases in a corpse, and rigor mortis weakens after a couple days, which can result in the expulsion of gases, liquids and solids from various orifices (not pretty). Even death itself can result in loss of muscle control and the leaking of substances.

In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes. ~ Benjamin Franklin

Life is not a Hollywood movie. Most people, especially young people, in developed countries rarely encounter death. When they do, they should know what to expect. It should give everyone a greater respect of life.

So, you were chatting with your girlfriend in the car before the fatal accident, and afterward you recognize a rude smell and you wonder where it's coming from. Now you'll know.

Or, you and your spouse grow old together. One morning you wake up in a wet bed. You're confused, and you turn and look and find that your spouse has expired. Now you'll know.

Death is a direct result of life. It's biology.

Since you asked... No. Not at all. I believe the OP was genuinely curious, and I see no problem with it whatsoever.

It's fascinating to consider from a philosophical point of view as well.

And, I suppose when one farts one could say that 'they' hadn't in fact farted at all, that their gut flora had.

What's wrong with being curious? It will inevitably make you, in my opinion, smarter.

I actually find your reply offensive.

The dead will release methane which is akin to a fart.

tridimity has a right to be skeptical of the poster's motives here- I am myself. I'll be watching this thread closely.

I assumed the OP thought that dead people do a dramatic gut crunch and rip a fart, or they burp out the names of the presidents, etc. So I as much as responded that these "actions" were not -- and could not be -- voluntary, but merely a matter of physics ... with a little bacteria thrown in. Blame the bacteria

There are issues with substances leaving dead bodies. When I had to put my dog down his bladder was not completely empty prior to doing so, and when the muscles loosened some fluids left.

It's just a part of the cycle of life. I'm sure morticians can attest to some very strange events taking place with bodies under their care.

a fart is a semi-controlled event I would say, and dead people aren't very good at those things.

Gas may escape very slowly or explosively, but probably rarely in a controlled manner.

So I would say dead people usually do not fart per definition. They do something similar to farting.

But I could be all wrong since I am not a pathologist and I never spend yonks and yonks with corpses.

    Other then mice.

And I never heard a living mouse fart either.
