I mean is there a different way life could have evolved and different creatures look like? Alternative evolution of life possible? (For instance, humans having a different shape, and some creatures not existing). My main question is about different shapes that could be possib

I'm sure that if we rolled evolution back to its beginnings again and replayed it, we'd get very different results. Some things would be familiar to us due to convergence, but others might be very different once the contingency effects of the current run were taken out of the equation.

Really? I always thought we would get the same results, or at least virtually the same.

If evolution happened under different circumstances, like a different atmosphere or a different gravitational force, and perhaps with different night/day shifts, we would get drastically different results. Or if we hijacked some key events, like mass extinction because of meteors and volcano eruptions, this would probably yield massive changes.

If we could replay evolution from the very beginning it would be interesting to see if any multicellular organisms evolve at all. Evolution seems to have a love affair with the single celled critter - indeed, that's all that ever existed for a very, very long time.

Is there any way biological organisms of today do not look?
