    is intelligence by anyhow genetic or inherited from the parental generation?

    Looking at studies between twins, identical and non identical, the former had more of a correlation of intelligence that the latter. They weren't entirely on the same level though so that suggests that it isn't the only factor and that there are environmental factors at hand.
    Having said that, me and my sister will be the first generation from either side of my family to go to University tracing back to the early 1800's.
    No gene has been actually linked with intelligence so if there actually is one, it has not been found. Even if there is a certain gene, environmental factors, such as the location in which you reside, tragedies in your life etc, may override this to the extent that the genetics are negligable.

    There are several discussions in the forum on this: the great Nurture versus Nature debate. For a well considered treatment I recommend Nurture via Nature by Mark Riddley. He explains, in a well documented and entertaining fashion, why both genetics and the environment play a role. Genetics determines your potential, environment the ability to realise that potential.
