ok so last night i was in bed with some insomnia. anyway i glanced over at the little red light indicating the powersave mode on my tv. my eyesight is pretty bad so my eyes were unfocused and i saw the usual "halo" effect that i see when i look at any light at night time.. however i half focused my eyes for a sec and the halo turned into 12 or 13 seperate dots of light each very clear and distinct from another and each consisting of several smaller dots of light that were only streaking slightly, these together formed a baseball sized image that was larger than the light or the original halo effect. from my basic hight school bio/eye science i know that the eye interprets visual data through the use of rods and cones. is it possible i was seening the individual output of each rod/cone (whichever is used in the dark). Or are my eyes truely F'd?? should i be worried or should i start painting pictures of what i see b/c its unique??????? im just looking for some info. plz dont hate

If you have a medical worry, you really should visit a doctor. You can't validate any advice given out on an internet message board and to trust that advice with your health would be very risky.

By gazing at clear sky or equally featureless and luminous scene, the "rods & cones" become apparent as fine, twinkling texture. Literally the field of vision. I'm unsure if this is really coming down the optic nerve or if it's information packets farther along.

Many people don't see that - the same people I guess who've never noticed a clock's minute hand moving. We're attentive to the message, not the medium. I think what you were seeing in that unfocused light was a few layers of processing overlaid. When there's little or no message we become more aware of the medium.

RAWasFCK, if you have this awareness then painting pictures about it is an excellent idea.

I trained myself to move one eye while keeping the other fixed, when I had nothing better to do with my time! This causes a splitting of the world scene for me. If all I am looking at is a single light, I can see two lights and move how far apart they are.

But 12 lights? That's something special, and something you should definitely have looked at by a doctor. Visualisations can be a sign of several neurological conditions. Don't freak out, it's probably benign, but seriously, see a doctor.
