Oxygenated blood is slightly brighter in colour than un-oxygenated blood. That's all. Neither is blue, but blood from veins may look slightly darker than blood from arteries.

It has nothing to do with purity, BTW.

But then what about the 'blue baby syndrome'.why does the baby appear blue if deoxyenated blood does not have blue colour?

Blue is the colour (or rather blue-ish) when there is little or no blood showing, so instead of healthy red you get to see the underlying colour of the tissue - which can appear blue-ish.

Apparently after some reading, the blue colour is caused by the build up of methemaglobin in the blood of these babies due to a defect in the enzyme that reconverts methemaglobin back to hemoglobin. Their blood is actually brownish but this results in a blue hue of the skin.
