I'm think of doing my dissertation (for a Masters) on the origins of speech but I am just wondering if there is enough relevant literature out there about this topic? (Before any one tells me to go look, I am just wondering what you guys think).

What do you guys know about the origin or speech?
    Thanks!!

lol, do not worry about that. There is a TON of stuff out there, from the development of the right cognitive capacities for language in comparison to other animals to whether or not neanderthals had the right morphological equipment. As a matter of fact I hope you have an interesting new angle someone hasn't thought of before, because I'd say it's a relatively full field.

Man can will nothing unless he has first understood that he must count on no one but himself; that he is alone, abandoned on earth in the midst of his infinite responsibilities, without help, with no other aim than the one he sets himself, with no other destiny than the one he forges for himself on this earth.

You seem to know about the area... What are the most interesting aspects in your opinion?

Maybe you could discuss how the complexity of speech proves that there must be a creator? Just a thought....

complexity of speech ? I think you must be confused, my friend. ALL speech is, is a series and a pattern of sound effects that we make. We associate these sound effects with certain activities or ideas. Speech is not complicated.

I read a while ago the Atlas of Languages. It's a huge book that gives reference to the origin of not only speech but language itself. You should definitely check that out as one of your references.
