Yesterday I received a trail cam video that shows what may or may not be a black bear. The thing that most makes it seem like something besides a black bear is that it appears to be brown and West Virginia isn't really known for having other color phases of black bears. So I'd like your opinions on it please. I have temporarily posted it on my website for people to take a look at because every attempt to e-mail it to bear experts has failed. You can download it at http://steventitchenell.tripod.com/wvbig/index.html Just click on "New WV video"
    Thanks
    P.S.
I have sent the link to Chris Ryan, the leader of the "West Virginia Black Bear Project", & Dr. Lynn Rogers. A bear expert in Minnesota. I haven't received replies from either one yet

    Hello,

Bears vary a lot in color. It is quite common that bears are of an unusual color. Brown bears themselves can range from light beige to almost black. While black bears are a bit more uniformly black, they too can vary a lot. I'd say the bear was a black bear.

Well yes. If it's a bear, it's definitely a black bear. There are no other species of bears in West Virginia

Surely you are not referring to the fuzzy movement near the lens at the beginning of the video.

What else would I be referring to since that's all that's on it?

Since most of the opinions I got were inconclusive and because the more I looked at it, the more I saw a bear cub, I have removed the video from my website
