Thread: Skunk Odor - Lemons?

I read somewhere that there are a few people who recognize skunk odor as lemony, because of some kind of enzyme. I said, "Well, duh. That's what it smells like." Then I realized that I must be one of these people. I've never seen that reference again. Can someone confirm or deny this phenomenon?

I feel like if i get really close to a road kill skunk it kind of smells like onions. I don't know if that helps at all though.

Skunk odor and the characteristic smell of grapefruit are both thiols, so it could have something to do with that.

Thiols are also responsible for the smell of onions, and some beers contain thiols.

I personally think Heineken smells like skunk too haha.
