Being in the sales and marketing field for biotechnology I'm always curious to interview researchers about products and uses. My topic has to do with precast gels for electrophoresis. It seems to me that in the past almost everyone casted their own gels in the lab. With the emergence of so many precast gels on the market, this trend has certainly grown quickly. I would guess that about 40% of labs running electrophoresis now use precasted gels. Does anyone agree with this number?

I'm also curious about your opinions with compatability issues. I've heard from many researchers that for these precasted gels to work, you sometimes need a gel tank from the same company or you could get leakage. Has anyone ever had this problem? Many companies now with give you the gel tank to get you locked into using their precasted gels (consumables means big money).

    Any input would be great!
