I'm writing a paper on child nudity for my psychology class. My focus is empirical evidence that proves a child's who exposes their naked body causes harm to the child and the exposure of that body causes harm to society. So far, I'm coming up empty handed. I can find no evidence except moral outrage against child nudity. And of course, beliefs are not physical evidence. They are culturally and religiously derived. Where can I go about find physical evidence that the naked human body under the age of 18 causes real harm to humans? If I don't get some hard evidence soon, I'm going to have to explain to my instructor why I need an extension, and he really doesn't do that without an automatic grade drop.

Reverse the objective of the paper. You appear to have gathered sufficient evidence for that stance.

You could compare the psychological wellbeing of members of nudist clubs (or more specifically their children) with a control group. I remember that at secondary school a classmate had a girlfriend for some time whose parents were in a nudist club, and they actually walked around naked inside their house all day. There must be more people like that, and if they're in some kind of club then they should be easy to find.

Good luck, and as always please report back on the forum when you have results

My kids (10 and 17) are naked a lot. My 10 yr old sees me naked a lot. My 17 yr old sleeps naked. Nudity has never been an issue for me or them. I don't get naked in front of my husband as often though.

I wouldn't think nudity would have an affect in any way on the mental health of a child. After all there have been many cultures historically where nudity in public was quite common and I doubt all their children grew up damaged. I would think it would actually improve the mental health of the child by making them less ashamed of their body, which could be a barrier to healthy sexual relationships as an adult.

It would only harm a child if the nudity of the child were somehow sexualized.

yeah, I hate that. People hear that nudity is ok in your house and they assume you're a bunch of incestuous pervs.
I remember when my husband's sister found out that our daughter slept with my husband. (once in a while, you know how toddlers can be) She was horrified. I was horrified that that was where her mind went.

Its cultural, primitive tribes that lived in isolated regions of africa and south america in the last century could have totally naked children walk around outside without harm or fuss (while the same could not be said of inuit tribes near the arctic circle).

What are frickland's arguments against child nudity? Why is it bad?

Here in Finland, almost all families have a sauna at least once a week, and they go there naked. The tradition of sauna is very old, and so is the tradition of nudity. When kids grow up, they aren't ashamed of their bodies, and they certainly aren't mentaly damaged!

I personally think there is something beautiful about young girls who have the freedom to live a naturalist life, to not be ashamed of their bodies, to laugh and fun. Its is a wonderful thing to see some of gods beautiful in non sexualized nudity. You will some in naturalist magazines which far more pleasing and wonderful to admire then any sleazy dirty porn mag of women spreading open and parts that look ragged, unclean and sexualized nudity. Where a naturalist girl just going about her life having fun and in non sexual nudity is far more pleasing and respectful then the other. And I say this with respect to naturalist girls, I am totally against all pedo, totally hate with no respect child abusers, those who trade poor innocent children in illegal ways it all most totally be stomped out 100%. But just young teen girls natural nudity in a non sexual and non harmful way is something totally beautiful and something not to turn a blind eye to.

frickland, the consensus of opinion is that nudity is harmless to children unless sexualized. In seeking evidence of the opposit you have set yourself a difficult task. More importantly you seem to be exhibiting an anti-science attitude, as you have already determined the outcome you want and are seeking evidence to support it. The more appropriate scientific attitude would be to research the effect ,either positive, negative or nuetral, of intra familial nudity experienced in childhood of adult psychological health.

Frickland, it sounds like you want to make a specific argument, and you can't find evidence supporting it. Your thesis should reflect your research, not the other way around. It sounds as if you're lining yourself up for a confirmation bias. I would recommend you reevaluate your thesis.

I'd expect the evidence to show just the opposite of your thesis.

Why would anybody set about proving something that they cannot even think of any evidence of?
Why not start the project from an impartial angle? examining both side perhaps? No wonder the standard of accademia is so piss poor in general.

*I should have read the thread, others made my point.

*I'm sorry to any impartial accademics out there.

I suspect that the paper was turned in, and frickland graduated and has gone on to other things.

    that being said:
A local artist watching her naked children playing in the kiddie pool in the back yard was so taken with the beauty of the moment that she wanted to capture it in paint.
Unfortunately, she was used to and better at working from both memory and photographs combined, so, she took lots of pictures.
Weeks later, she was working at her painting desk with several pictures taped up or scattered about when the crazy cops burst through the door, arrested her, and placed her children under the courts "protection"... the children suffered "in the system"
Her legal defense bankrupted her, and the local paper made her out to be a child molestor.

It took her almost 3 years to clear her name and get her children back, and they will always bear mental scars from the episode.

    ...................
The fact of the children playing, and her loving them was crushed by the rules of our insane society.
The children playing was beautiful and harmed no one.
Would that I could say the same for the cops and prosecuting attorney.
