Scientifically speaking is the act of rape natural in the wild? Was it more normal in the days of cavemen and the hunter-gatherer tribes? There's a poll and I welcome comments that are given from a scientific perspective.

i can't remember ever seeing a poll on the subject from 10,000BC or before ...
Thats the second post mentioning rape, have you got issues?
hmm i smell a troll![]()

We need only read the voluminous material on the social behavior of the chimp, our nearest relative, to get an insight into this question. Chimps are gender dimorphic about the same as we. That is, the male is somewhat larger and stronger but not as much as with some primates such as the gorilla. In the chimp, most males mate, but most pregnancies with the higher-status females come from the alpha males. They do not rape the females. Keep in mind that being an alpha bestows an aura of appeal that is attractive to the females. Surely you have noticed that successful men have an advantage in courtship!Originally Posted by sderenzi
You speak carelessly about "cave men." We humans lived in caves. Are you referring to the Neanderthal? He was not a human.
Keep in mind that alpha males do not need to rape because they are attracted to the alpha. He is genetically desirable as the father and his favour is important in getting along in the group. He protects the females from undue interest by the other males. The omega males tend to be sexually repressed and do not mate as often.
Baboons might be the only groups in which the alpha males treat the females roughly. They can be rather cruel.

the evolution of humans is the entire genus of homo, not just homo sapians. homo sapiens are refered to as modern humansOriginally Posted by charles brough
Dolphins rape and I have heard of another species that does it but I can't remember at the moment.
Orangutans are thought to rape though I dont have a link to confirm this.
Yes, the Neanderthal was not a MODERN human, of course! But then, isn't that obvious? If I had said "the Neanderthal was not a modern human," I would have seemed to have been insulting the intelligence of the person who I was communicating with.Originally Posted by Nevyn
By the way, I lived in Indonesia 3 years and have been to Sumatra where the Urangitans exist. I never saw any but did see pigmy elephants in the wild. Anyway, I have also read that rural women there in some places are on guard against rape by the males. I also read of a female "inviting" her zoo keeper there to lie with him through gestures---which he declined.
The funny part...
By present human law, if one cannot give verbal consent to a sex act (or if one is under the legal age respective to the location said act is being done in), it is rape.
Therefore, by human law and definition, all animal sexual acts are rape acts.
As for an animal example: Ever see a Siamese breed? It's an all-out war match between the male and female.
He's got more polls than the front of the UN building.

Tiger sharks also rape their mates
I don't have a link, either, but I also saw this research, although the scientists were careful not to call it "rape."Originally Posted by kstephens8
Also, has anybody ever seen cats mate? The male cat pins the female down with teeth and claws. Maybe it's all fun and games, but it doesn't look like it...
