I recently visited Paris (France) and was struck by the huge increase in graffiti everywhere, since I last visited about 20 years ago. A real shame - they even paint/draw on beautiful old stone buildings and on roof tops and chimneys etc. I even saw a couple of vans that had been covered in graffiti.

I wondered though, what causes people to do graffiti?

Is it people feeling threatened by something and want to stake their claim to an area?

A territorial thing? - e.g. the increase in immigration and various groups feeling under pressure from 'foreign' people from other cultures and societies moving in?

There are many reasons that people put graffiti on buildings. One is that they are artists that want to be noticed by many people as they can reach. Then there are those who just want to vandalize others property for the fun of it to piss the property owners off. There are those who put graffiti on things to vent their ire at society or at someone. Some of them are actually paid to paint graffiti on the walls of their businesses to get attention so people will notice them more.

My opinions only and only posted for consideration.

Partly territory(tagging) but most of the tagging is simple and rather ugly work.
Partly because it became a fad and "the thing to do to be cool." Note the promotion of graffiti artists like Banksy.
Also partly because some areas of our cities are ugly blank grey places. In some cases the graffiti was just a local beautification project because the kids got tired of staring at blank concrete.

I believe, spray-paint causes people to do graffiti.

Tagging is like slapping your dick at something.. It is just a way to vandalize. They also scratch mirrors, of shred seats.

Making a beautiful piece is like giving birth to a baby boy/girl.. It is a creative outlet, no more, no less.

Imagine, being able to create matter out of thin air, and not coming up with using drones for boarding hostile ships. Or using drones to defend your own ship. Heck, using drones to block energy attacks, counterattack or for surveillance. Unless, of course, they are nano-machines in your blood, which is a billion times more complex..

Maybe, but the question is; why is it getting worse, i.e., more graffiti?

Simple answer, graffiti is semi permanent, nobody vandalizes it with painting the wall to its original color, and removing it costs money. You should be asking yourself, why isn't it being removed anymore?
