    So to some people I always say Hi and others I always say Hey, does that mean anything?

    It probably relates to how you view them (in a social sense).

    Maybe you feel that "Hey" is slightly less formal than "Hi" so you use it with people you are more familiar with?

    Thats the weird thing, I use hi with some people who are closer to me, I just checked my IM history and was surprised with who i used Hi and Hey with. There was a girl who I had a thing for and she is one of my closest friends and yet I use hi with her and hey with a not so close female friend.
