Mainly out of boredom, and unemployment i was checking into research papers that shows that hiring experienced employees outweigh the benefits of using a blank sheet of an inexperienced employee.

I have found proof that leadership requires experience, which is not surprising. I want to know what effect previous job experience has on low level research & development (junior functions).

I can think of two possibilities.

    - Experience makes new improvements or developments harder. As the brain implements improvements faster on new information.

    - The head-start the experienced personnel has gives them a financial benefit over the inexperienced, which can not be paid back over the average time of employment.

But any paper over supporting any of either possibilities?

Growing up, i marveled at star-trek's science, and ignored the perfect society. Now, i try to ignore their science, and marvel at the society.

Imagine, being able to create matter out of thin air, and not coming up with using drones for boarding hostile ships. Or using drones to defend your own ship. Heck, using drones to block energy attacks, counterattack or for surveillance. Unless, of course, they are nano-machines in your blood, which is a billion times more complex..

I can cite a paper that put's forth the argument that it's better to hire the less qualified on the basis that they will be more motivated to work harder, not that I would at all be 100% on board with that assessment personally:
