I was never a fan of the left-brain, right-brain idea anyway so I'm reasonably pleased that there's more physical evidence accumulating that brain function isn't simple in that way.

Chances are, you've heard the label of being a "right-brained" or "left-brained"thinker. Logical, detail-oriented and analytical? That's left-brained behavior. Creative, thoughtful and subjective? Yourbrain's right side functions stronger —or so long-held assumptions suggest.
But newly released research findings from University of Utah neuroscientists assert that there is no evidence within brain imaging that indicates some people are right-brained or left-brained.

I hope no hearts are broken by the loss of a favourite notion.

Sadly, mere evidence will never get rid of this kind of ridiculous myth.

During the course of the study, researchers analyzed resting brain scans of 1,011 people between the ages of seven and 29. In each person, they studied functional lateralization of the brain measured for thousands of brain regions —finding no relationship that individuals preferentially use their left -brain network or right- brain network more often.

"It's absolutely true that some brain functions occur in one or the other side of the brain. Language tends to be on the left, attention more on the right. But people don't tend to have a stronger left- or right-sided brain network. It seems to be determined more connection by connection, " said Jeff Anderson, M.D., Ph.D., lead author of the study, which is formally titled "An Evaluation of the Left-Brain vs. Right-Brain Hypothesis with Resting State Functional Connectivity Magnetic Resonance Imaging." It is published in the journal PLOS ONE this month

So far, what their study proved is that they cannot create a study which would test the brain while active.
Which is when "personality" (I prefer tendencies to) "types" manifest themselves.

Agreed. While there are pretty strong asymmetries in the right and left halves of the brain - and while some functions (like language) are more heavily supported by one hemisphere than the other - saying things like "creativity comes from the right side of your brain" aren't that supportable.

Well something has to explain the different personality types...and obviously that has to do with the brain.

Whenever you try to get into absolutes, it is like applying black and white to a grey scale. Much information is lost.

but why there is left handed people and right handed people

Left or right handedness is not related to the "concept" of left-brained, right-brained behaviour and attitudes.

They're presumed to be different ways of thinking or personality. An entirely different, and unfounded, idea entirely.

I don't know if I am left or right brained...I do know however I do half of things left hand, the others right handed...my dominant hand (I'm screwed in golf for that one....grumbling.....)

What DO I know....I am thinking..not a hell of a lot!

Left-handedness does correlate with male homosexuality, however. Just an interestng tidbit.
