Because the quality of a novel/short story is subjective, as with most "all" arts. Even Hemingway has many abhorrers.

In what way is "subjective opinion" or "its a matter of taste" not Behavior and Psychology.

Some people won't like your story because it is not the sort of thing that people of their type like.

Everyone is different. That is partly a matter of genetics, partly developmental, and partly environmental (nature vs nurture, in other words).
