    A new study from Northern Illinois university states that a mother's beliefs about her child's mental illness will affect how that child recovers. The author of the study says that this is the first of its kind that directly relates the stigma of mental illness, how a person views him or her self, and the process of recovery.

    Both. This effect is very real. Environment couples in key ways with genetics, and this becomes especially apparent in children with handicaps.
