i'm assuming people have a general understanding of what facebook is. if you don't, i recommend you make a page and play around with it to understand the basic functions that a profile has before reading.

(this all occured about one full day ago)

someone within my main social group (a group of about 1200 older adolescents) had created a profile page named "[my social group]'s best" which has all the same functions as a profile page for a person. but the only thing they used it for was to post about 60 of the most amusing pictures of people they knew with some comical(but potentially offensive) captions.

this is a remarkable social experiement because it takes information that was already available to members of the social group(pictures on people's profiles) and organizes it in ones place, while placing only a slight spin on it. what predictions would you all make about the social consequences of such a page.

also, the name of the person who created the page is not known by anyone.

interested to hear your theories. fortunately this test is actually occuring so i will be able to compare your predictions with actual events over time.

People will probably lose interest and view it if they:

    A: Remember it
B: Are bored and Remember it.

Both dependent on A, so there's just:

    A: Remember it.

Its sounds a bit of a strange thing to do, privacy is a big thing at times and you have to be careful with who you add on there because there are people who are out intentionally to cause harm, that just sit behind their computer and create malice for some psychotic reason.

No disrepect, but why have you got 1200 people in this group? Can you say you trust each one with pictures of yourself? Knowledge about you, and perhaps all the photos of other people you know?

As for those consequences over-sensitive people might freak out at the slightest spin and then again it might take a lot more for someone else a lot less sensitive.

PS. You've given me a great idea.

well most people did as you said, and simply didn't give a crap. out of the 1200 only about 300 cared enough to add the profile.

of those three hundred most found it humorous, but a select few threatened violence, and a few decided to take action to have the profile deleted from facebook on the premise of "bullying" because they didn't like the pictures.

and good to know i've given you an idea.
