Zach - I'd rather not email you and provide you with my own email address. Could you perhaps instead use a software like SurveyMonkey or Opinio to create your questions and share the link so we can contribute anonymously?

I would like to answer your poll, but I don't know how to rank myself on your various scales. What kind or level of happiness is 50, and what is 70? Is an ordinary churchgoer, trying to follow the Commandments, 100 per cent religious? Or is it just 30 per cent, because he doesn't go on pilgrimages or experience raptures on a regular basis?

Also, your scale of attitudes towards other options (religious towards Atheists and vice versa) is pretty pessimistic, only ranking from "accepting" (the only positive option) to "murderous hate". How about respecting, or sympathizing? And what exactly is murderous hate - do you mean if I actually cut their throats, or just burst into a tirade of hate talk whenever I meet them?

Good luck with your research anyway,

My happiness depends on whether or not I'm getting laid and paid. So...100% in that case, 65% in the other case..some days 40%..

    Okay, I'll play.

    1. Pretty happy, usually over 50% (but that's probably a genetic tendency - my Gran was known as Smiler).
    2. Female
    3. Accepting towards alternative religions
    4. The Bible is a poor account of history - well, it's oral history written down, and poetry, and prophesy, and all sorts of other literary genres, all mashed up together.
    5. I regularly attend church
    6. At my church we sing, and do other things that bring us closer together (not sure about dancing with some of them!)
    7. Well, if I didn't believe in the spiritual entity, I wouldn't be bothering with church.
    8. The world would be better if religion did not exist - disagree. What about great art and music inspired by religion, for starters? Or hospitals, which often started as religious institutions, or charities that started off run by nuns, or the Samaritans etc. etc.?
    9. I have had spiritual experiences, if by that you mean something more than going to church.
    10. My father wasn't religious, but my mother found comfort in going to church when she left him.
    11. I believe everyone should have freedom of religion ("look, if he wants to sacrifice a goat for evening prayer....")
    12. I think it would be difficult to expose a child to all religions, but if they show an interest they should certainly be encouraged to explore that, even if they made a different choice to that of their parents.
    13. I'm not American, but I think "In God We Trust" has no place on a banknote.
    14. Likewise - I think the Pledge of Allegiance is faintly creepy. Nothing like it exists in the UK.
    15. No, God will not punish me if I go out and rob a bank tomorrow.
    16. God doesn't care if I go to church or not - Jesus said 'Did you visit me in prison, feed the hungry, etc.', not 'did you go to church'.
    17. God created the Universe -yep, with the Big Bang.
    18. I know many people who go to my church personally.
    19. Of course gays should have equal rights.
    20. Well, if I get a big utilities bill in the next few days, that would increase my anxiety levels, but otherwise, I stay pretty cheerful

    I hope this helps.
By the way, my denomination is Anglican.

    1. How happy are you? 1 to 100

    75

    2. Gender

    Male

    3. What is your attitude towards alternative religion?

Murderous hate is a poor way to put it put ill choose this answer. I hate religion because i oppose lies, deceit, ignorance, dogma and traditions. These are more evil than any weapon of mass destruction and plague.

    4. The Bible is a very poor account of history

    Agree

(Its actually a mockery of history)

    5. I regularly attend church

    Disagree

    7. God, Allah, or any spiritual entity does not exist

    Agree

(Even if god did exist it would only make the world a worse place)

    8. The world would be a better place if religion had never existed

    Agree.

BUT! If religion didnt exist something else would probably take its place somehow.

    9. I have never had a spiritual experience

    Agree.

    10. My parents were not religious

    Agree. (Thank god)

    11. I believe everyone should have freedom of religion

    Disagree.

If humanity is to progress religion must be eliminated.

    12. I believe children should have the opportunity to experience all religions, and make the choice for themselves, even at the risk of them accepting a religion that I believe is wrong, thereby condemning them to an eternity of punishment, a low-quality reincarnation, etc.

    Agree.

Agreeing that they should be able to form their own opinions only.

    13. “In God we Trust” should be removed from all U.S. currency

    Agree.

Not american but yes, never mix religion and politics - it never ends well.

    14. The Pledge of Allegiance should not include “Under God”

    Agree

Why should it? To scare people with the wrath of eternal torment? This isnt the dark ages.

    15. If I commit a crime, God will punish me for it

    Disagree.

There is no right or wrong only action and reaction.

    16. If I do not go to church, God will punish me for it

    Disagree.

If you go to church you punish yourself.

    17. God Created the Universe

Disagree. (Opinion not fact, i cant disprove a "divine" entity exist)

    18. I know many of the people who go to my church personally

    Disagree.

    19. Gays should have equal rights (Marriage, property, etc.)

    Agree.

Who cares if a person is sexually attracted to same sex/opposite sex, an animal, a corpse, a tree in the forest or a hole in the ground? We should judge humans by who they are not what food they like, what they prefer sexually or what music they prefer. To judge a person by what he likes and doesent is ignorant.

    20. There is nothing going on in my life that might significantly alter my happiness

    Disagree.

School, finding a girl, good friends, enjoying every breath i take, working out, hobbies. These things make me happy, and what i dont have is driing me forward to obtain them.

    21. Please rank your happiness on the scale

    75.

I think i know what the purpose of this poll is. You are trying to prove that people that arent religious arent as happy as those who are. Which is truly misguided as truth isnt always the "Easy" or "happy" answer.

If something you cant prove exist like god, and the stupid rules made by religion makes you happy they arent making you happy for the RIGHT REASON.

Just as a heroin junkie can claim the drug is making him happy, it isnt making his world any better. He will keep dreaming and lying to himself untill he one day takes his last breath realizing he lived his life in vain.

Edit: Ill take back that the "murderous hate" option isnt a good choise of words. If someone killed my entire family i would definatly want revenge on that person and torture him by any means necessary. But if a priest tried to convert him to a religion id probably mercy shoot him or shoot the priest. Because Religion is something i wouldnt want even upon my worst of enemies nomatter how much someone hurt me. Religion destroys the mind, it extinguishes imagination and it swallows people like a black hole swallow life.
A lie is a lie even if everyone believes it. The truth is the truth even if nobody believes it. - David Stevens

They should actually be given all information.. then if they choose to believe.. it's up to them but all things being equal... with a bit of common sense... it would be pretty unlikely that they'd choose to believe.
