This is just an idea, that crossed my mind as watching CNN.

Does anyone agree that America (I mean the USA) is controlling their people's will with fear? Reinforcing their nationalism turning against something, no matter what it is?

Fear the terrorists! Oh, sorry that's over... Now fear inmigrants!

I understand their reasons of wanting to regulate inmigration, It's OK! Make your laws! But presenting inmigrants as a menace? The American media is overreacting don't you think?

over reacting seems to be what the media does and they do it well.

i'm not a resident of the united states but in my oppinion control is not being sought in America with fear, it may just be that the American government is afraid. they do have to watch their backs afterall.

if their controling things, it looks like its being done through tighter laws (as always) and a strong millitary presance across the globe.
that could create fear i suppose.

What makes you think that only Americans fear Americans. The reporting tactics of the media works both ways. What do people do when they fear someone and can't run away? Well they arm themselves and wait for an attack, or they arm themselves and attack first. Americans aren't the only ones who watch the news.

Americna Media are market based. They provide what sells best, and so if fear sells best, then they sell fear. People is more willing to watch something scary than something plaasant, and so they may like the TV that offers them more thrills per view.

Fear sells, so fear is sold. That's one reason why in Spain News are NOT accounted in audience charts, and so there is no point -theorethically- in having the "most watched News". This doesn't deters some TV networks to have a "yellowish" tint which they disguise as "human interest". Wow, yeah, a father is crying on your TV set because his son/daughter killed him/herself in a car crash. What a NEW, duh. In real life, you would turn away your head and respect his pain and dignity... but, hey, it's on the TV.

Each country just buys a different stuff, and so TV just sell a different stuff. "Education and entertainment" makes a good line, but as long as a TV has to sell to earn a living, they will sell what is bought. All in all, the Roman also learned a lot of anatomy in those gladiator fights...

Michael Moore makes a lot of points based on this idea.

Hmmm... it's not about freedom, not at all.

Sadly, it's all about making some $$, ones that can't be made so easily here in our countries. Lack of education, lack of employment, bad investing environment...

Fear is an often used tactic in politics; a certain political group in my country also uses it to win the people on their hand, and sadly it works. It often keeps the crowed from the real problems a country faces.
For the immigration, if someone wants to participate in a certain society, why should he be refused. As a European scientist the door to the USA is as open as it can get; for the Mexican farmer they want to build a wall… “It's all economics they say, they never said it would be fair”
