What causes different age groups to want different things in potential mates? When does this stage of attraction begin and when does it end? Is there anyway to shape what someone will be attracted to when they finally reach the age that they start to notice other people as attractive?

From what age do people notice other peoples attractiveness? Because I think that starts pretty early in life. Verry young children seem to be more open to persons whith better looks, then to 'normal'or 'less atractive' persons. In elementary school the most popular boys and girls also turn out to be the more atractive ones.

It is only later that people come to realize that they find other people atractive. Mostly around the teenage period. At this age attractiveness seems to be more important then later on in life. Propably because this would be the best period for humans to reproduce (biologically) That's also mostly the time that they find out to what sex they are atracted.

I don't think you can shape someones sexuality, for that goes beyond just the attractive part. I for example am a straight guy, but that doesn't mean i can't see it when other guys are goodlooking or atractive.

I think it depends on who your playmates are.

Young people tend to play with the opposite sex up until approx the age of 9-10 and then they tend to avoid them and stick within the same sex groups until their mid-teens when they seek out friends of the opposite sex again.

It's a phenomena we noticed when running youth clubs, to such an extent we had to have single sex groups for the age period because all they used to do was squabble and argue!

It starts very early. I remember me and my step sister when I was about 6 and she 4, we used to play together more tha with our friends and on one occasion we actually showed each other our privates for some unknown reason, it got as far as tactile contact between the two. Now I don't know where the curiosity at that age for such contact of things that (to us) were just for weeing out of :?.

Other occasions when I was younger and noticed attraction on girls when I was still young of about up to 9, the attraction is the same though up until adolescence when you have experimented with your own sexual organs and understand sex moreso, the because of that it changes, it changes from 'like' to 'fancy'. Note that as well, listen to how children and teenagers tease each other about attraction to the opposite sex and what words they use to describe them.

I do note also that now 21, I still find say the odd 9 year old and a little older 'attractive' as I would have found them 'attractive' at the same age of 9, this attraction is different to what I feel for women my own age and even adolscencents. I believe that people are attracted in different ways at different ages. I know my attraction for a 9 year old girl is not a sexual one (oh god no), but it feels more like a companionate one, whereas my own age the attraction is sexual and not companionate (aka passionate) I believe there is a model in relationships in psychology that explains this, the three types of love or attraction, but I cannot remember what they were or what it was called. It might help you more if you research it...

Hope this helps and hope you don't think me a wierdo for 'liking' some 9 year olds. Oddly I do note the attraction goes no lower than that age for some reason, any younger and they become: awwwwww soooo cute...., and: awwwww bless. :?

I voted no since I know of no research that suggests this is the case. On the other hand it is not something I have looked for, so who knows. Why did you think there might be a difference?

Certainly when I was seven I was 'in love' with a girl in my class. It never occured to me to tell her, though I did announce to my parents that I would marry her when I grew up. (I never did.) Many adults conveniently forget the extent of their interest and activities as young children, soextracting facts can be diffcult.
