    Hi guys/gals

What are people's thoughts on The Long Now Foundation projects?

    http://www.longnow.org/projects/

I do have many thoughts on both sides of the fence (mainly positive), I just want to see the kind of responses the thread gets first as I don't live in the US so my knowledge and scope for discussion is limited.

    Cheers
    Chris

Let me think. It's an interesting topic that could make people think more about our preservation, yes I've linked it to their site so it's straight out of the horses mouth. I'm not a member! I just thought there could be a more first hand account of things fro US forum users. I do know it's very "out there" but people might have views on it.

it wouldn't be the first time someone joins a forum with the sole purpose of posting a link to a favourite site they want to promote, which on this forum counts as spam

granted that this may not be one of those instances, but that's not always easy to figure out with a grand total (at the time) of 3 posts

SilentC, you can't fault MarnixR for suspecting spam. We have been flooded with spam on a regular basis and are geared to watch out for the tell-tale signs, of which some you possess. But I have checked you out and I don't think it is though. Please forgive us!

    As to your link:

I think it is cool at first glace. I haven't really taken an in-depth look yet (it might still be a weird cult for all I know ), but I like what they are trying to do. I like the way they give the dates as a number out of 10000, like 01996 for instance! You are right that really thinking about it makes you wonder about where we will be in 10000 years time.

I'd love to see someone dating time from about 15,000,000,000 years ago, so we would never have to worry about negative time and BC and all that malarkey.

Let our date be 15,000,002,008 or some such and let's date the Big Bang at about 1,400,000,000 or thereabouts. If anyone asks what happened before that, tell 'em to wait until they've been through uni - it's an answer for adults only....
