Is it possible that during the rapid expansion of the universe ( The Big Bang), some particle perhaps went faster than the speed of light?

I read that it expanded to be the universe in seconds, while light would take years to travel from the center area of the universe to the outer levels.

My understanding is that space itself expanded - with particles etc staying 'embedded' in the same place (or thereabouts - let's not forget that they had momentum etc, but also let's not forget that it took a long time for the universe to cool down enough for particles to form) but the distance between them growing.

You can get an argument on *expansion* being at the the speed of sound (C) or multiples of it.

Many say that cooling, from whatever pre-matter was, took 300k to millions of years for cooling to drop temperatures below 10 Billion Kelvin, where our understanding of matter could develop. At 186,200 miles per second thats lot of distance each second and remember that theory indicates that has not stopped.
