ive been hearing alot of things lately about there being another star in our solar system and also about other planets orbiting that star... has anyone else heard about this? is it true? do we have proof or what?

i dont have the link right now but if you type "suns sister star" or "the great year" in youtube theres a couple videos about it

There is no other star in our solar system...

In *Planet Spins* I have talked about Binary and Trinary stars which exist in our Galaxy and inferred our star could have formed simultaneously with another or more probably many stars.

Another possible mis-conception may come from Jupiter, which if had formed with much more of what it is composed of could have become a star.

Sister Star, would probably be a Star similar to ours, in size, make up, age and luminosity, but not necessarily having anything to do with ours or its formation...

i think you're probably thinking of Nemesis, the purported companion star of the sun

Nemesis was postulated following a study by Sepkoski & Raup which suggested that there was a 26-million year periodicity in extinction events over the past 250 million years
this study has since been refuted, but at the time an event that showed this type of periodicity seemed to require an astronomical explanation, one of which was that the sun had a twin star called Nemesis which at regular intervals disturbed the comets in the Oort cloud and sent them raining towards the sun, thereby making the likelihood of an impact with the earth (as implicated in the K-T extinction event) far more likely

astronomers at the time have been searching for signs of such a companion star, but no such evidence has been found + the discovery that the stats behind the original study were a bit dodgy made it completely unnecessary to postulate a star like Nemesis
