We all know that our radio transmissions are travelling at the speed of light throughout the universe. My question is: does the same happen to all the data transmitted in Internet connections?

That which goes by satellite may but only on the uplink, the downlink footprint will be almost completely cotained within the earth's sphere.

Any wireless medium used for data transfer (internet) would certainly go up and out into the universe.
GPRS, HSDPA, WiFi etc, etc. even your local wireless network at home or in work all use radio signals that would travel out into space. Any WLAN/bb modems that do not require a "line of sight" would broadcast in all directions including up.

I doubt very much whether much would even get above the atmosphere, radiation dispersal of such low intensity digital signals would put put them way below the mds level of any receiver, if you put a receiver on the moon then it might receive only a photon a week from your wii network, nothing like enough to discern any information.

In 1944, this creature rose from the swamp, with tremendous strength and some dormant memories that for example allowed him to speak English, but not knowing what he was, and not remembering Cyrus Gold or his fate. Wandering throughout the swamp, he encountered two escaped criminals, killed them, and took their clothes. When they asked him his name, he simply muttered that he had been born on Monday. Reminded of an old nursery rhyme about a man born on Monday, the thugs named the creature "Solomon Grundy".

Yes, this was in the back of my mind when I was replying to this post but as Solomon pointed out any aliens in low earth orbit will see what you are downloading .

All tier 1 internet service providers (ISP) are wired. All wireless access is destined to a wired provider where the encrypted packet of data is decoded and routed to another wired source. any wireless internet transmissions are encrypted and meaningless until they reach a wired source.

Todays technology providers offer voice, cable and internet which are all the same digital technology. They all travel over the same wire. Wired or Wireless, it all ends up at a wired source. Without a wired source to accept, it falls out of range. poof

Ya know.... like your cell phone having no bars... why.... no tower close enough.
