I'm sure it is, yes. There's no reason to think that they're connected in any way.

not quite - just making a little joke about "from above" being just as arbitrary as "clockwise"

Just out of interest. Which way round does Uranus moons orbit ? Do they pass between the Sun/Uranus and then behind it, or around it's equator ?

not sure about the major satellites, but the rings definitely lie in the equatorial plane, together with the shepherding moonlets

my impression was that the whole system, planet + satellites was tipped over - how that might have been achieved, i have no idea

    1. No need to shout, dude.

    2. For them to even 'seem' to move clockwise, it would mean that something else is moving anti-clockwise.

    3. If you take (as many have pointed out, entirely arbitrarily) our North as being 'up', and therefore the direction from which you view the solar system, then the earth, if I'm not mistaken, revolves (around the sun) anti-clockwise, and rotates anti-clockwise too. The moon revolves around the earth anti-clockwise too.

    4. There's a wealth of detail that's lost when you use the word 'seem', particularly that, given it's an arbitrary point of view, how would you expect it to have non-arbitrary consequences like the asymmetrical apportioning of 'handedness' in humans?

Yeah. Though handedness has always stumped me. As in a helix being "left handed" or "right handed", regardless of reference. Is that not the crudest violation of simplicity?
