    Isolated black holes roam the Milky Way. They number in the many millions. Since they have no "visible" companion by which to detect and analyze them, observing their presence requires very precise analysis of microlensing events which occur when such a black hole passes in front of a distance star, when observed from Earth.

    Such a microlensing event was observed by the Hubble Space Telescope, and over a period of six years some features of the BH have been estimated. For more on these unique observations, see the link below.
