er, no, the moon does not and will not turn red. What will happen is that it will pass into the earth's shadow, if you were standing on the moon and looking to the earth then you would see a bright red ring, ie sunlight refracting through the earth's atmosphere. so the moon will be bathed in a reddish, coppery coloured light.

This picture shows an almost total eclipse. Tonight you will see at around 1115PM (GMT) the full show, the moon should begin to 'change' around 10PM. If there are any bright stars nearby it will look awesome, as if ou are on another planet.
are you sure about the time... because i am looking at it now and it is deffinately changing
and the moon is definately red megabrain
its not red but it does have a coppery red hue, looks like mars...

EDIT: Megabrain, this is friendly banter and old jokes between friends, please don't delete
It was not red, it was bathed in reddish light and appeared red, since we are in a scientific forum I think the proper terms should be used.
Now boys and girls get back to your seats and study!
you know what i meant![]()
Anyway, did you enjoy the show? awsome through good binoculars to see stars around it, like looking at mMars close up!
