I would say my love of science is on a par (pun intended as most of them are!) with my love of golf so this might be a stupid question but I have heard that at the nanosecond of the Big Bang, space expanded so that matter was able to ride this like a surfer with a "speed" millions of times greater than light. If we could have sent a team of scientists to watch this event could they measure that the universe itself was expanding or would they imply it from the appearance of matter moving faster than this speed? In fact, would they even see the matter moving this fast?
