Any Star Trek fans out there.

Do you think We will ever travel thru space like star trek, have transporters and so on.
and if we did do you think space will be ready for us.........

not a fan of star trek, but teleportation has happened but i think only on a few atoms

i think warp drive is the most plausible FTL

and TP will be possible for greater amount of atoms as technology progress (i think)

If you could physicaly travel faster than the speed of light the first patch of interstellar gas or dust you hit would vaporize you.

As for 'teleportation' tell me how you think it can be achieved.

that FTL way is based on that you stand still and space is moving faster than light (SR dont say anythign about how fast space can move) so all dust in space wont hit you since the dust aint moving.

    Errr....

Since that does not make any sense at all, I'll take it that either you have no answer to my question, or you have no real knowledge of astrophysics.

im talking theoretical. in a warp drive the ship stands still, it isnt moving, its the space around the ship that is moving, and since the ship aint moving and only the space the damage becuase of dust becomes 0 since the space direcly around the ship/ship itself is standing still

The only way I can make any sense of what you say is to replace the word 'theoretical' with the word 'bollocks'.

If the space around the ship is moving then so must all the matter in it otherwise where you want to be is not coming towards you. shouldn't you be arguing this in the sci-fi section?

teleportation is factual but not for anything more complex than particles of light :-D

And over what distance would that have been?

You seem not to be able to understand this. So dont try. This is the most promising FTL speed we know of today that can theoreticly work

thats wrong, they have teleportet individual atoms

Megabrain, don't be so pompous and arrogant as to assume we'll never reach that level of advancement. If we can imagine it, we will one day be able to succeed at doing it(whatever it may be, it doesn't really matter). Your knowledge and understanding is puny in comparison to the human desire to be greater than they are.

No matter was teleported according to the article, it was quantum states teleported between two entangled particles. This will be usefull for making superfast computers, but I don't know if it can lead to teleporting matter over a distance.

    Zelos, drac,

I'd reccomend you go find some good physics books, you might see just how far removed sci-fi is from fact.

did i ever claim it would work? NO...
i just say it can theoreticly work and the mathematics behind it has been conducted and as we know it now its the most promissing. if it works or not will we see

zelos'ses theory i once watched in a futurama episode where the professors clone saves the professor.
I dont think it is possible to move in the speed of light due to time dilation.
there will be other methods (warp) with whitch we can still travel long dictances without wasting so much energy to travel over the speed of light.
I haven't come to fight my word, but to find the truth.

    Have a look at this....

There are about six pages in nice easy chunks...

this response is for terry, as well; your going to get some negative response, so i want to encourage you thought. science fiction, in many ways has been in advance thought of what comes to be.

manned flights outside our solar system will no doubt need speeds well past or at least light speed. as some in the late 1800's thought auto travel was to fast for humans, some and admittedly quite a few, think travel beyond that of light is not possible. i am not so sure and am convinced there is something faster than light, to start with, we will some day figure out and take science to real, "New Frontiers".

nanotechnology, is working on self producing fuels, fuel that creates itself while some is used and requirements for fuel may not be what you think in space travel. its will not require what the shuttle does, for instance, to
leave earths gravity. for instance even today, if you had that quantity and were free of gravity, you could go a very long way, well past our solar system.

as for realistic space travel, light speed times 100 or more would be required and id hope, if light speed is surpassed we will find additional
speed would be simple, with out affect and limitations based on objects or debris in space. this gets to deflectors and a little beyond by imagination.
