Aussie scientists challenge 'Big Bang' theory and say the Universe 'froze' its way into existence in a Big Chill | Mail Online

I just found the above article, is there any follow up? Does anyone know anything about this new theory? Any research/update would be helpful. Thanks.

That article is monumentally uninformative. Frankly, it is so vague, I cannot tell the difference between the Lambda CDM where the Universe has been cooling since the initial event and the hypothesis proposed in that article where the Universe has been cooling since the initial event.

The primary difference may be the absence of a singularity- which would be a welcome change. I would be interested in seeing a detailed paper on this. It looks intriguing.

The Daily Mail, huh? You couldn't even find a real newspaper.

This is an interesting idea (I haven't read much about it but it doesn't, at first glance, seem to contradict the big bang).

Some more intelligent (*) discussion here: 'Melbourne researchers rewrite Big Bang theory' ... or not
Revealing what happened at the instant of genesis will only add to the Big Bang, not rewrite it.
I guess a headline such as “Melbourne Researchers have a neat idea that might have observational consequences that may reveal the nature of the space and time, and could potentially point us in the right kind of direction in understanding a quantised picture of gravity and hence reveal what really happened at the very start of our universe” just doesn’t have the same ring about it.
(*) than the Daily Fail, I mean - which wouldn't be hard. I suspect divination using slug trails would give you a more informed commentary on the world

But congratulations on finding some real science. (I hope that doesn't mean you will reject it.)

    Thanks for an alternate link.

I looked, in this short time, to see if I could get a hit on google for a peer reviewed paper and came up empty handed. Think there is one out there?

The paper is here: Phys. Rev. D 86, 044001 (2012): Domain structures in quantum graphity

Quantum graphity offers the intriguing notion that space emerges in the low-energy states of the spatial degrees of freedom of a dynamical lattice. Here we investigate metastable domain structures which are likely to exist in the low-energy phase of lattice evolution. Through an annealing process we explore the formation of metastable defects at domain boundaries and the effects of domain structures on the propagation of bosons. We show that these structures should have observable background-independent consequences including scattering, double imaging, and gravitational lensing-like effects.
