Just a couple of days to go before the Earth begins to revolve on its Inclination Path along its Orbit to shorten the hours of Daylight in the Northern Hemisphere. Just curious, are any rituals planned for this day? Like Maypole dancing in the UK? Or having Clam Bakes in North America? As it will be our Winter Solstice here in the Southern Hemisphere, I'm trying to promote the Wicker Man idea. You know, constructing a giant image of a man made of Wicker with an inbuilt Cage where we hope to put tail gaters. Then at the appropriate time, petrol and a match for a great festivity. Its perishing cold here in Melbourne and I could think of nothing better than to get warmed by a Wicker Man. And for you in the North, remember the Thread about sunlight reaching places on the Summer Solstice where it had never been known before.? And I posted back that, if the house hadnt moved on its foundations, than the Earth might have inclined on its Axis just a little bit more. I got my first "" Like "" from this Poste. Enjoy the warmth. westwind.

The local general aviation airport has a celebration every year, leading up to the balloon festival in a few weeks. I try and watch meteors

Oooooh.... Are we all invited for the barbecue westwind? I have always wanted to try long pig.
Not all who wander are lost... Some of us just misplaced our destination.

I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of a man is to live, not to exist.

For dmwyant. You certainly are invited to the barbecue dmwyant. Yep, by all means bring the pork chops. We do not Barbie Prawns ( Americans read Shrimps ). That would be bloody ridiculous. Beer only at Australian Barbecues. Plain white bread and plenty of tomato sauce, (Americans read ketchup ), bread must be fresh. No Fosters is drunk at Australian Barbecues. All for export. And we can't get rid of it quickly enough. Then we can finish off with Barbecured Tail Gaters. westwind.

There's the Burning Man festival, similar to Wicker Man. It started out as a summer solstice event but was moved to Labor Day.
