The earth orbits the Sun, the Sun orbits the Milky Way, the Milky Way orbits the Great Atractor. What does the Great Atractor orbit? Does it orbit anything? Where does the orbiting stop? Is the Great Atractor a part of our Universe? Joe L. Ogan

Stars orbit around the centre of galaxies. Galaxies do not orbit anything. Galaxies are basically expanding from each other and moving away at great speed from the big bang event, the creation of the universe. Also the moon does not orbit the sun, it orbits the Earth which orbits the sun.
Does the great Atractor have anything to do with accelerating the speed of the Galaxies? Thanks. Joe L. Ogan
They do and in the case of the local group, they orbit a point in space, which is basically the center off mass for the galaxies in our galactic cluster.Galaxies do not orbit anything.
On a larger scale, our local group form part of the Virgo supercluster, which consists out of clusters of clusters.
The great attractor is something else.

I was under the impression that Galaxies did orbit something, but I am just trying to learn something about the Universe. I have found that one gets the best answers from "Ask a scientist". They give mostly straight answers without causing you to feel out of line by asking. Thanks, Joe L. Ogan
Did you feel out of line now? Please don't. You are most welcome. They give mostly straight answers without causing you to feel out of line by asking.
