These stunning photographs show galaxies speeding through clusters of neighbouring galaxies and being stripped of their gas as a result.
The photographs are of galaxies NGC 4402 and NGC 4522 as seen by the Hubble Space Telescope’s Advanced Camera for Surveys.
Astronomers estimate galaxy NGC 4522 is traveling at 6.2 million miles per hour. It’s about 60 million light-years away in the Virgo cluster.
